About
the Life with Spirit Foundation
The
Life with Spirit Foundation was created in 2008 by the Reverend
Lane Baldwin, D.D., a multi-talented musician, writer and business
consultant. The continuation and extension of Lane's work over
the past three decades, the foundation's work focuses on its
outreach program - Lane's speaking/workshop appearances - and
on creating stronger community bonds through its financial and
material support of Danville
Foodstock projects.
Our
Mission
- To promote
living a positive, spiritual-based life, regardless of the
faith each person chooses.
- To spread
a message of harmony among all peoples, regardless of race,
color, or creed.
- To promote
servant-leadership as the best philosophy to guide society.
- To serve
as an example of servant-leadership in the community by reaching
out to those who need it most, and encouraging community involvement.
Outreach
and Education
Lane Baldwin has written and spoken about positive living and
spirituality for over two decades. His main message is to seek
common ground with others, and work together to create a better
society, beginning at the community level but also expanding to
global efforts. Lane is also an avid promoter of servant-leadership,
advocating it as the best philosphy to guide businesses, organizations
and society as a whole. We continue to seek opportunties to spread
this message to churches, business and government organizations,
civic groups, schools and more. More...
Important
Note: We
do NOT promote religion, much less promote a specific religion.
What we promote is living a positive, spiritually-based life.
Our goal is to promote (and live by) the teachings that are common
to most life ways, as a means of creating new bonds among all
people, strengthening existing bonds, and encouraging all people
to work together to solve society's problems and create a better
society for all. We welcome all people, regardless of faith or
life way, color, creed or origin.
Our
Funding
Principal
funding for the Life with Spirit Foundation is provided by Lane
Baldwin and his wife, Glenda Ford-Baldwin. In addition, the foundation
gratefully accepts donations (of any amount!) and recently launched
its on-line store.
At
present, donations are NOT tax deductible. However, we are in
the process of securing full non-profit status, which we hope
to complete in 2010.

About
the Reverend Lane Baldwin
Interfaith Spiritual Minister, D.D.

For
more than forty years Lane Baldwin has studied theology and belief
systems from around the world. He has traveled to every continent
save Antarctica, researching and studying with spiritual teachers
and ministers from numerous faiths. This work led Lane to the
understanding that most religions and life ways have common core
teachings. When distilled to their essence, these teachings tell
us to "live in harmony" with others, to find our fulfillment
in the service of others and in living a spiritual life. Lane's
understanding of the nature of the Sacred and our place in creation
are the philosphies that drive our work.
Since
leaving the US Navy in 1982, Lane has pursued interwoven careers
as a professional musician and business consultant. While building
his reputation as one of the top Blues bassists in the US, he
also began to consult to other musicians and bands in the areas
of marketing and management. This second career eventually brought
him to the attention of Men's Wearhouse, a world-renowned incubator
of servant-leadership and humanistic management.
During
his time with MW, Lane was introduced to the philosophy of servant-leadership
as defined by Robert Greenleaf and currently championed by Larry
Spears of the Spears
Center for Servant-Leadership. Studying with some of today's
top management specialists, he quickly realized that servant-leadership
was, at its core, a codification of the lessons he learned from
his father as a child, and had already been using for years to
a great extent. This journey of (re)discovery reaffirmed many
of Lane's core beliefs while offering the possibility of servant-based
business.
Since
leaving Men's Wearhouse, Lane has continued to promote servant-leadership,
humanistic management and true service-based sales through his
workshops, seminars and consulting. Of course, he also runs his
own business
(and band)
as a servant to others.
In
2005, Lane's essay A Gift of Spirit was included in Chicken
Soup to Inspire the Body & Soul®, part of the best-selling
book series of all time. This opportunity led Lane to focus more
of his efforts on writing about spirituality and service-based
living. Shortly thereafter, he began to lead workshops on spiritual
living. In 2010, his essay comparing servant-leadership to indigenous
leadership will be included in the latest in a series of anthologies
edited by Larry Spears. This essay is a focal point of the Spears
Center for Servant-Leadership's March, 2009, newsletter. (More
info here.) Lane recently became the newest member of the
Spears Center Council of Equals (Board of Trustees).
In
January, 2009, Lane answered the call for ordination as an Interfaith
Spiritual Minister. At the same time, he was honored with a Doctorate
of Divinity for his decades of work. Now, after years of study,
Lane will focus his efforts on speaking and writing, with the
goal of reaching a larger audience. Interested parties are welcome
to contact the foundation
for further information about Lane's keynotes, workshops and other
personal appearances.

A
Note from Lane Baldwin
Thank
you for your interest in our work. I hope and pray that others
will find something useful in what we do. I won't pretend I
have the ultimate answers to the questions we all ask; nor will
I pretend to be a model person - because I'm not. But I'd like
to believe that I'm moving in the right direction. I'm learning,
on an almost-daily basis, to be a better person, to become more
attuned to the spiritual energy that drives this universe. And
I'm still learning.
It's
been an interesting road, to say the least. I often look back
and am amazed at how lucky I am to have lived most of my life
doing what I love. I hope that each reader will get something
useful out of their visits here, and that our work may, in some
small way, contribute to the realization of a better, more spiritually-focused
world. May you live your life well, with love in your heart,
and service to others on your mind. May you live each day focused
on being the best possible version of you. In other words, may
you live a life with Spirit!
In
peace,
Lane
