Sacred Children Standing
I stood among trees intertwined
Drawn close in secret session
Murmured soft their coded phrase
Beyond my comprehension
And tho’ I strove to understand
Leaf whispers and their meaning
I little caught but scant few words
And nothing of their leaning
Then lo! broke through import and ire
Like sunlight charging daybreak
Epiphany, sweet draught and yet
A sharp unwelcome heartache
O! My brothers, sisters dear
Sacred children standing
At last I know somewhat your fears
Humanity notwithstanding
